Why I Love The Apartment In As Few Words As Necessary

Suzanne asked me over lunch today why I love The Apartment so much. (At the time, I was eating a slice of pizza called the "Larry Tate" after a character on Bewitched.) I chose that slice because the actor who played Larry Tate ALSO played Mr. Eichelberger in, yes, The Apartment. Here was my answer:

I genuinely love the movie for the plot, and the brilliant writing, and its biting honesty about where some people naturally fall in the food chain.

But there’s this other side of me that finds it very romantic that, while Shirley Maclaine is recuperating from her sleeping pill overdose in Jack Lemmon’s apartment, he takes the blade out of his razor so she won’t slit her wrists.
