In the original movie version of 1776, the song "Cool Cool Considerate Men" was cut by studio head Jack Warner at the request of Richard Nixon, who felt the song cast Republicans in a bad light.
Nixon has been dead for a long time now, and the song was restored in the LaserDisc version (remember LaserDiscs?) and later the DVD and, I'm happy to say, the television version that aired last night on TCM. And as I watch the song, I have hope that perhaps the Republicans (those that are still alive) who have cast themselves in a bad light will be removed by voters like you and me.
