Dreamgirls Freaking ROCKS

It's very exciting to sit in a theater on the official opening day of a movie and watch a star born. And Jennifer Hudson is primed to be a very big star. (She's also primed to be a one-hit wonder. Time will tell.) The audience (other than the a-holes with the loud plastic something behind me)was electric. They cheered when she came onscreen for the first time, when she had her "curtain call" in the credits, and they erupted into sheer hysteria when she sang, "And I Am Telling You. . . I Am Not Going." I had my reservations about whether she and Beyoncé could handle the acting side of their roles, but they came through with flying colors.

The rest of the week, if I get to the movies, will be devoted to less mainstream fare--I'm looking forward to Children of Men, Notes on a Scandal, and, to a lesser extent, Miss Potter.

I'm not a big movie fan, but that could be because my time was so much in demand...

I've got a couple of weeks off, maybe I'll go see a flick...

Oh, yes - Michele sends her regards.

greetings from michele...

we dont see many movies, what with the toddler running around the house, but there are a few coming up that will demand the location of a babysitter.

I had the same experience with Dreamgirls on opening day in New York City. Explosions of applause whenever she sang. I would have cut about 20 minutes out of the movie, but otherwise thought it was great.

I don't think Miss Potter begins until spring. I'm off to see Notes on a Scandal Thursday.

Thanks for the tip on Dreamgirls. I will definitely try to get out to see this movie when it debuts over here in the tropics.

I was a huge cheerleader for Jennifer Hudson on American Idol and I'm so glad she did great in this movie. I can't wait to see it.
