"Pharmacy" Is Not the Opposite of "Coloring Book Store"

A few weeks ago, when the weather outside was approaching 70° in January, I took a long, meandering walk through town (well, as meandering as possible in a square-mile city) and wound up at Creative Little Monsters, Hoboken's new shop dedicated to coloring books. And while I have to question how a store that sells nothing but coloring books can make a profit, (even if they DO have a vintage Laverne and Shirley scribbler), that's not what bugs me. (In all honesty, I love to color; I find it relaxing, and I also found this store, while stocked to the gills with every coloring book conceivable, cold and unimpressive.)

The store is housed in an old Pharmacy, and a stained glass window above the main glass in the storefront says, "Pharmacy." (There is also a sign for the store, but it's on an ugly rubber tarp strung across the glass.) And the owner was speaking to a customer, and she said, "The glass is really quite beautiful, and we were told we couldn't take it down because of its historical significance. . . but on the other hand, we don't want people to think this is a pharmacy. . . quite the opposite, really."

On what planet, lady, is "pharmacy" the opposite of "coloring book store"?

Hi Carli, I'm here from Micheles today, I can't believe theres a whole store of coloring books! I could see as a part of a bookstore or comic book store but wow! (I'd actually love it because I still color at 38, but in design books of computer generated images- very relaxing)
I agree with you that a coloring book store would not be the opposite of a pharmacy, I'm glad they aren't allowed to take the glass out, it sounds lovely.

When I was a child, I loved coloring books and crayons better than almost anything else. If there had been a store of nothing else, I wouldn've thought I'd died and gone to heaven!

I hope they don't remove the stained glass, since there is so little of it outside churches. Michele sent me.

Gosh, talk about an unusual shop! I've never heard of a place selling ONLY coloring books. Very different.
Maybe the shop keeper should suspend a nice wooden-type plaque with the name of her shop. Does seem odd not to be able to have your store name out front to advertise.

She is obviously speaking another language!

They could use the stained glass window if they had imagination - clouring books / coloured glass. They could make a feature of coloured glass in their other windows and in mobiles etc.

Here from Michele's.

Michele sent me over.
You WOULD think that a crafty store could come up with a way to save the beautiful glass AND advertise themselves in a reasonable way... more than a tarp.
