Did you know?
The South African clawed frog used to be used as a pregnancy test? The frog would be injected with urine from a pregnant woman, and within 12 hours, if the woman was pregnant, the frog would lay eggs.
This has me imagining a "nature gone wild" scenario where a frog lays eggs that hatch into frogs with human skin or something.
The clawed frog is just one of a number of frog species currently threatened by a dangerous fungus. You can read about it in the link above.
In other news, ever since my health scare*, I've been trying to eat better. And with the exception of a few moments of extreme yumminess, I'm doing pretty well. But I'm really proud that I seem to have licked my afternoon peanut butter cup habit.
I told my co-worker Erin about my accomplishment, and she was like, "I've never even SEEN you eat a peanut butter cup." And I'm like, "That's probably because I inhale the freaking things." And then we got on a subject of favorite desserts, and I came up with this list. Since I'm not EATING any of this stuff, at least I can organize and rank it.
So,
1. Birthday cake. Preferably yellow cake, chocolate pudding filling, chocolate frosting, refrigerated, with a giant glass of skim milk.
2. Cheesecake. (See below post.) I don't usually like my cheesecake compromised by a bunch of other flavors, but sometimes I like that gooey fruit topping they throw on.
3. Cannolis. Preferably NOT coated in chocolate. As I said to Erin, I'm not the biggest chocolate fan in the world. It compromises the taste of the sugar.
4. Fruit pies. Yeah, I'm cheating a little and listing all fruit pies. Hot, with ice cream. If I HAD to choose favorites, I'd say apple, and cherry. Lattice top. My autobiography might be called "My Mother Never Made a Lattice-Top Pie For Me." She's baked me a lot of other stuff, including some very tasty Hamantaschen. And she also gave me the recipe this weekend, but I took one look at it and realized I did not have the counter space nor the patience to try it.
5. Pumpkin pie. Pumpkin. Is that a fruit? If it is, its pie is still not a "traditional" fruit pie. And I love it so much, it gets its own category.
I originally had cookies at #5, but that's more of a snack food. And that is another list for another time. But if I had to make it right now, it'd look something like this:
1. Peanut butter cups.
2. Candy cigarettes (now called "candy sticks")
3. chocolate chip cookies straight from the oven
4. Fruit (which have their own ranking)
5. Pretzel rods I can pretend are cigars.
*I thought I was having a heart attack. I called my insurance company, and they thought I was having a heart attack. I went to the ER, and they gave me a blood test that said I had a heart attack. But after two days in the hospital, an echocardiagram, a stress test (which I passed), more blood tests, a CT scan, and a couple of physical exams by actual human beings, plus those aforementioned shots of blood thinner in my stomach in case I was having a pulmonary embolism (I wasn't)--almost all while I refused to take off my jeans--it was determined I did not have a heart attack. I hope they were right, because I'm taking a long-ass walk today. That is, if I can motivate myself to get up.

Do the walk but only if it won't stress you.
Every day I have strawberries or blueberries or raspberries - whatever ! can get with low fat hazelnut yoghourt and I never tire of it. Give it a try - it educates your palate away from the baddies.
I couldn't get Terri's web page so came here instead - from Michele's
I forget the question. Oh yeah, I vote for Central Park.
Acide relfux can feel like a heart attack. It woke me at night few times and I wanted my heart checked out too. The form of relfux I have is not with the heartburn. It's a slowing of digestion and so the food ferments and makes a gas that can come up and make you feel like your having a heart attack. It's easy to get them confused. If it is acide reflux the changes you're making will help that too. And don't eat at night and then lay down.
Michele sent me over.
Either one sounds good. AS long as you walk. Do one oday, and save the other for another day.
Maybe this is a bad time to point out that I live about 5 miles from where they make Reeses Peanutbutter cups. It's just this side of Hershey.
Oops!
I hope you are doing well.
Michele sent me.
I had those injections oh they where awful painful alot....
The poking the test the endless diagnosis and then they told me I needed to rest....
I feel ya!
I admire anyone with the self-discipline to give up a favorite sweet. For me, giving up the fruit pies would be awful. But my real junk food craving is salty things. Take away my chips and I'll just curl up in a ball. LOL
Thanks for stopping by my blog. It led me here and I love your writing!
I love yellow cake with choc. frosting. :)
So glad your scare for just that.

I'm hungry now.
I love taking walks, until I get tired. Then I can't wait to be home. I hope you got a good nap after yours. I love naps probably more than walks.
