Confession

I just watched the movie Transformers. And liked it.
I probably wouldn't have liked it if I paid more than $1.07 for it.
That is why DVDxpress rocks.
But I also rented Reno 911: Miami (I've been catching some reruns of the actual show, which airs at 4 a.m. around here, and I was curious enough to rent the movie.)
And whatever dickwad had Reno 911 before me, like, used it as a hockey puck, as it is seriously scratched up and won't play. I hope DVDxpress gives me a refund, or else it's like paying $2.14 to see Transformers, which is still pretty cheap. The good thing about the DVDxpress machines is that they usually only stock newish releases, so I guess most DVDs don't have a chance to get all f'd up by dickwads before they're replaced by the next mindless blockbuster/Drew Barrymore romantic comedy/cartoon animals with attitude crap.

But in my defense, I also finished Rebecca this morning. It was Alfred Hitchcock's first Hollywood film, and it is a masterpiece. A bit outdated, yes, but still a masterpiece.

And, like, 10 minutes shorter than Transformers, so that's good, too.

UPDATE: I left a message with DVDxpress, and they called me back half an hour later. Now, I'm not thrilled that they called me at 11:20 at night, but I AM thrilled that they took care of my complaint so quickly. They "locked" the movie so that no one else can rent it after I return it, and gave me a coupon code so I can rent another movie. Sweet!

I hope DVDxpress is able to turn a profit, stay in business, and expand. For those of you who didn't click the link above, DVDxpress puts up movie-rental machines in places like supermarkets, office buildings, etc. Most of the films are of the popcorn/blockbuster/mainstream Oscar variety, but even if that's not your thing, there's enough of a selection that you can always find something watchable. The newest films are often out of stock, but by the following week you can usually get them. You simply choose the film you want, swipe your credit card, and the movie machine spits out your selection. And since I entered my email address the first time I rented a movie, I always get a receipt sent to my e-mail. And for $1.07 (with tax), it sure beats heading to the theater to see those movies my father would call "a good rent."

Now someone explain to me why, with a process so easy, the schmuckoid woman in front of me tonight still spent forever choosing a movie, finally decided on the vomit-inducing Music and Lyrics (I didn't see the movie, but even the commercial was vomit-inducing), didn't realize that her movie had been delivered (thus standing there applying Chapstick while my blood boiled), and finally spent, oh, 100 years fiddling with her bags so the DVD would fit just right.

Music and Lyrics [wrinkles nose] yup, pukefest......

Transformers - I realised I was not 10yrs old BEFORE I went to see it.

Reno 911 - definitely on my 'Must Miss' list [wrinkles nose]

I love the book of Rebecca :-))

Thanks to the myriad film satellite channels and film on demand, most DVD rental places are going out of business - our local 'Choices' just closed down.

Mind you, if businesses phoned us at 1120pm, they would be charged with disturbing the peace, not to mention losing the business.

Michele sent me to day hello Carli - love your kitty avatar.

You should thank your lucky stars that REno 911: Miami was scratched. You dodged a bullet.

You sure do have a lot of aggravation in your life, Carli---and I'm about to add a little bit more. I just tagged you with a meme over on my blog. Feel free to come over and collect. Have a nice day!

I'm a Netflix fan. I think their website is the most usefull, user-friendly web site I've ever dealt with. However the fly in the ointment is the scratched and unplayable disks I receive many times. I mean it is a REAL crapshoot. I have YET to allow them to "resend" me the movie when I log on and report the disk as unplayable. Somehow the whole "I've got this DVD and can't watch the movie" thing makes me not want to even see the flick - wierd huh?

Hey by the way, thanks for the suggestion on LittleMissMatched.com. I have no creative juices when it comes to gift buying and your recommendation yielded a great set of mis-matched socks as a Christmas present for my wife. She loves goofy socks and will get a kick out of this unexpected gift. Keep up the good work!
