Did you hear? China is threatening a boycott of Sharon Stone's films due to disparaging remarks the actress made about the country's earthquake victims. Thankfully, here in America she is a past-her-prime one-hit wonder who will forever be remembered for flashing her bush at Michael Douglas and for wearing a Gap shirt to the Oscars (which, in her defense, she totally pulled off). I wouldn't say her movies are so much banned from U.S. theaters as much as they're doomed to wind up in a bargain DVD bin at a grocery store next to surplus copies of From Justin to Kelly and a compilation of Chico and the Man episodes. I mean, seriously, When a Man Falls in the Forest? What IS that shit?
Here's what the blonde dumbshell had to say about the tragic earthquake, which has taken the lives of some 70,000 Chinese--most of whom, I'm gonna guess, have no say in how the Chinese government treats Tibet.
"I'm not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don't think anyone should be unkind to anyone else," Stone said in a brief red-carpet interview with Cable Entertainment News of Hong Kong. "And then this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and then I thought, is that karma? When you're not nice that the bad things happen to you?"
Wow, look at Sharon, taking her cues from the likes of Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, who blamed 9/11 on the heathenism of everyday Americans.
And yes, I'm aware of how much money she's raised for AIDS victims. Too bad she doesn't have the same compassion for the thousands of innocent people who perished beneath tons of concrete--and the hundreds of thousand now left homeless.
