I saw Stepbrothers tonight. Loved it. I'm not in the mood for a full-fledged review, but suffice it to say it was another fun night out with Ferrell and C. Reilly (or is it just Reilly?), with production duties resting on the capable shoulders of current golden boy Judd Apatow. I've seen so many PG-13 comedies, I'd forgotten how wonderfully raunchy an "R" rated movie can be. (I'm not sure about any of you, but the moment I turned 17, probably before that, movie ratings became insignificant to me, and I rarely even know the rating of the movie I'm going to see. The only way I knew this was R-rated before it started was that they ran Red Band trailers.)
This was the first comedy of the summer I had any real interest in. Get Smart? Get over Steve Carell doing essentially the same thing every time he's on camera. The Love Guru? Sorry, Mike. You've been off in Shrekland for too long, and there are new boys in town now. (For the record, Myers's movie has made around $32 million--basically, a bomb.) I had no strong desire to mess with the Zohan, and while you can't call it a flop exactly, it is huffing and puffing over that $100 million line. And Meet Dave did anyone meet Dave?
Finally, I think I'm about to have some fun. The trailers I saw tonight for Tropic Thunder, Pineapple Express, and even The Love Bunny left me giggling. I thought Tropic Thunder looked terrible when I saw the first trailer for it; now I am hopeful it will be a big win for Benny boy. Also, why has no one, to my knowledge, filmed a video called "Stiller" to the theme of "Thriller," where all the zombies are Ben Stiller?
And by the way, the strangest mystery of the newest X-Files movie is why, after all these years, they even bothered.

I, too, saw Stepbrothers, and while I usually don't cotton to juvenile Will Ferrell humor, I LOVED this movie. It helped that I saw it with a 14 year old boy--the movie's target audience despite the R rating. The rest of the Times Square audience also loved this movie. Much LOL.
I've always related to Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller. Each one of them is so unique that I can't help but laugh my head off just looking at them.
