What I Watch

I don't watch Flight of the Conchords, Dexter, Weeds, True Blood, or Entourage. . . in fact, I don't even have Showtime or HBO. (Although, in my defense, I am a fan of Curb Your Enthusiasm and will find some way to watch when the 7th season arrives.)

I don't watch any of the "edgy" regular cable shows. No Mad Men (though I liked the few episodes I've seen), no It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, no Rescue Me or Nip/Tuck. I don't even watch the more mainstream stuff, like Psych or Burn Notice or The Closer or that supernatural Closer ripoff with Holly Hunter (Saving Grace?).

And while I consider myself a geek, I really couldn't care less about the final season of Battlestar Galactica and I don't really understand what a Stargate is.

The 1 scripted series on watch on cable is the-n's Degrassi: The Next Generation. I've been a Degrassi fan since the original generation in the 80s,so watching this high-school centered show makes me feel nostalgic for the past, and hey, the show is a guilty pleasure for lots of adults who wish they were still 17.

So, when it comes to TV, I am a hopeless, network-watching square. Without commentary, here is a list of shows I regularly watch:

House
ER
Office
30 Rock
Gray's Anatomy
Simpsons
Family Guy
Private Practice
Law and Order: SVU
It occurs to me that if I ONLY watched these shows, that would equal 1 hour per night.

There are a few non-scripted cable shows I watch, but not with any regularity:
It's Me or the Dog
Animal Cops
Underdog to Wonderdog (All on Animal Planet)
Top Chef (Though this season has been just awful. I find myself DVRing it and fast-forwarding through most of it.)
I do not watch celebrity or exploitive reality TV, other than the occassional episode of Intervention.

And of course there's TCM, where I often park myself to watch movies I've seen a hundred times already but can't seem to commit to movies I haven't seen before. I wonder how I ever saw anything new in the first place.

What are your favorite, can't-miss shows?

I watch The Office.

I also watch Dexter, BSG, Lost, American Idol, and Hell's Kitchen. My husband and I complain about the reality shows, but we still watch them.

Also, we're watching The Wire seasons on DVD and they're really good. And I watch shows like Nova and other documentaries on Nat Geo, Science, Discovery, and other stations as they come up and I hear about them. We haven't seen a movie in a while.

LOST, The Closer, Damages, All L&O's (although I'm quite tired of SVU and missing CI), Grey's, Desperate Housewives (I really don't know why I just do). Tried the new HBO special series last night Eastbound and going Nowhere because I heard it was about a pitcher and I love baseball. It is Ricky Bobby all over again stretched out. As I was thinking that, Will Ferrell's name flashed by on the screen as Executive Producer or something. That does it. I'm cancelling HBO unless Tru Blood is coming back on soon.

I don't have Showtime either, but I love Weeds. I borrowed the DVDs from the library. I need to see the fourth season though. The only network show I can't miss is How I Met Your Mother, but I usually get around to Scrubs eventually. Why wasn't it on your list?

I can't miss 24, Terminator or 30 Rock. That's pretty much it. Oh, and any new episode of Hannah Montana. Cuz I'm really a 12 year old in a 40 year old's body.
