Tuesday night, I finally watched an old episode of The Dick Van Dyke show that I'd DVR'd weeks ago. "It May Look Like a Walnut" is a classic sitcom episode from the show's second season, and it's out on DVD DVD (Dick Van Dyke DVD). It's timeless enough that if I were a sitcom writer or producer, I would pull a publicity stunt where this episode would be reworked for a current sitcom—although I don't think there's a show on the air worthy of it.
The episode revolves around Rob Petrie's (played by DVD) bad dream, propogated by a lousy Sci-Fi movie he'd watched. Essentially, an alien leader resembling Danny Thomas (played by Danny Thomas), uses walnuts as part of a plot to take over the world.
Anyway, towards the end of the episode, Rob Petrie turns on his TV and learns that the movie Road to Singapore was going to be on.
And Tuesday night, Road to Singapore was on TCM. Some things never change, I guess. Rob Petrie didn't watch the movie, and neither did I.
