DVR ALERT!

Tomorrow at 6 a.m., TCM will show Blackboard Jungle as part of their salute to Sidney Poitier.

Blackboard is perhaps the first of the "take some punk kids who can't be taught and inspire them to be the best they can be" movies, followed by To Sir With Love (with Poitier as the teacher), Stand and Deliver, Dangerous Minds, Newsies, Mean Streets, Benji: The Hunted. . . oh, wait. Now I'm just naming random movies. It's also the first film to ever use a rock and roll soundtrack, opening to "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and the Comets a full 19 years before Happy Days.

Jamie Farr (Klinger from M*A*S*H) appears as one of the students. He is billed as "Jameel Farah," which is his real name. And for the record, I own Just Farr Fun, his autobiography, but it was a gift.

I love Blackboard Jungle. Those kids are crazy bad! In your list of inspiring teacher movies you forgot the recent Ron Clark Story, which I'm ashamed to say I saw this weekend.

Here in Canada our time is different, so is your 6 a.m. also my 6 a.m.? And do I get the TCM channel? Also, here in Canada, Facts of Life (Canadian title: "Facts of Life, Eh?") did not air through 1998.
