Some Emmy Stuff

What do Alan Alda and Blyther Danner have in common, besides the fact that both won best supporting acting awards for the dramas they appeared in?

Both were on an episode of M*A*S*H called "The More I See You." Danner played a nurse, and the true love of Hawkeye's life. And one of the reasons I love that episode is because Danner's character's name was Carlye Breslin. I used to have it bad for M*A*S*H, and I loved that I shared a first name with the love of Hawkeye's life.

As for the Emmys. . . I used to be very into watching them, and predicting the winners, and getting angry or excited when my top picks didn't or did win the award. And I know that there's this big to-do these days about the nominating process, and how it's unfair to certain shows and actors and blah blah blah.

What it comes down to is this: Do you remember who won the Emmy for best supporting actress in 1991? (It was some chick from Northern Exposure, and I had to look it up.)

Do you remember, in that same year, when Rosalind Shays, L.A. Law's resident bitch, stepped into an empty elevator shaft, and with it, television history?

I'd rather create a really memorable piece of television than have a stabby trophy on my shelf. At the end of the day, Cloris Leachman may have more acting emmys than anyone else (8), but to me, she'll always be Beverly Ann, Mrs. Garrett's sister and replacement on Facts of Life.
