You're Not the Reality Show I Want

Two things that bug the heck out of me regarding the new NBC series You're the One that I Want:

1. The show focuses on a nationwide search to find new lead actors for a Broadway revival of GREASE. So not one, but both principle roles will be played by actors with no Broadway experience? Did no one learn anything from the Joanna Pacitti Annie debacle? And yes, many performers have made triumphant Broadway debuts in lead roles, but it's different when BOTH lead roles are played by amateurs selected from a reality show. And I can only imagine the resentment of the other cast members, who will likely have more experience.

2. The song "You're the One that I Want" isn't even IN the Broadway musical. The heads behind the movie tossed aside the forgettable "All Shook Up" and replaced it with "You're the One that I Want." (They were seeking--and found--a hit for the pop charts.) There is no word as to whether the revival's producers were able to secure rights to use the song, but I do know that those who came before them (namely, the backers of the mid-90's revival) were unsuccessful. And if that if the song is missing, there are going to be some pretty pissed off fans sitting through the anti-climactic "All Shook Up."

I'm still going to watch, of course. Grease is, after all, the word, and there's always the chance Didi "I played Frenchie and you're never gonna forget it" Conn will show up for a guest appearance.

I can't wait for this show. You put it into a different perspective for me. Thanks.

Sorry, I am so not into reality TV--the producers should be sued for false advertisement, there's nothing real about it.

However, I am impressed with your movie list of 2006. Wow, you watch a lot of movies. I often review foreign movies in my blog.

Here from Michele's to wish you a Happy New Year.

I love Grease and was thinking about watching this show but I forgot about it. You provided some food for thought! I didn't know about the song issue.
