Remember when Patrick Duffy left Dallas, and then a year later he realized he'd made a mistake and came back? And remember how they decided to make the whole season he was gone a dream? The description for tomorrow's episode, airing at 3 p.m. on Soapnet.
:
"Pam wakes up."
Yeah! So if you're a child of the eighties like I am, and your parents taped Dallas so they could watch it when they came home from synagogue, and you weren't allowed to talk while they watched, maybe you're interested in seeing Bobby in the shower, gettin' all soapy and freaking out Pam, who was sure he'd died in the previous season's finale.
On a personal note, the episode airing Monday at 2--the one that explains that it was all a dream--originally aired during Stephanie Kane's bat mitzvah. (Stephanie wore a white suit that my mother didn't care for.) There was a power outage, and while everyone felt for Stephanie (the service resumed once the lights came back on) the real concern was that the VCR didn't tape. And it didn't. We got home ten minutes before Dallas was over and huddled around my dad's Watchman. And we had to wait until the next weekend, when my cousins came over with the tape. That's right, kids. No DVR. No iTunes. No You Tube. Cousin Alice. All we had was Cousin Alice.
A few years later, Stephanie Kane died of cancer. And that was more sad than missing Dallas.

I watched Dallas religiously as a kid. Whenever I see clips of it now, it looks so dorky!
God, I had forgotten all about Dallas, I need to watch the reruns!
Hi, Michele sent me.
I feel deprived. I wasn't allowed to watch Dalas. :)
Carli you bring to mind the giant sized, clunky, top fed VHR recorder we had when I was a teenager. That thing was huge, and boxy and loud and ornery but man did I think we had the world by the tail!
Michelle says hi :)
It's funny how things trigger memories... and strange how skewed our priorities can get when faced with the chance of missing our favourite TV show.
Thank god for Cousin Alice... But why wasn't she at synagogue too?
Michele sent me.
Wouldn't that be nice if you could just rewind whenever a plan didn't work out and walk out the shower with another chance to get it right. Michele sent me.
I missed the mid-seasons of Dallas back then. If they come in box sets of DVD's then I should get them and watch them all over again. I remember how I loved Sue-Ellen's accent and would try to imitate it, lol!
Here from Michele's :)
P.S. Read your post below too. Hope you feel better!!
My Father was a huge Dallas fan, he was sent, by my mother, to do the grocery shopping on Friday nights & my brother & I would always be impressed into service to get things from different asiles to speed the shopping because 'he couldn't miss Dallas' that really brings back some funny memories!
Here from Micheles.
I got hooked on All My Children back when I was in the Navy. It was on during our lunch break and we would run to the barracks to catch up on Erica Kane and the whole town of Pine Valley.
We bought a $1400 VCR (it was 1983) because it had a two week programmable timer that allowed us to tape it when or sub went out for a week.

i watched Dallas spasdomically and aa a result can remember almost nothing about it. It is maddening tho' when you miss the vital episode. It happens to me even now. Michels sent me.
Was it taped on Beta or VHS??
Michele sent me on this trip down memory lane.
Mike
I was never hooked on "Dallas"...but there certainly have been shows which I was hooked on...and I am old enough to remember when there was no Television, let alone Tivo...And I bought my first VCR in 1973, and it was like a miracle! They only had the 3/4 inch size VCR's then....so you could only tape one hour, period! And there were no timers or remotes....! When the 1/2 inch VHS type VCR's finally came out, we all thought we were in heaven! (LOL).
So I had to laugh when you said, there were no Tivo's or DVR's back in the time of "Dallas"....
I think it is amazing that you have seen so very many great films, judging by your list on your side-bar. Congratulations to you!
I'm here from Michele's today and it is always lovely to visit you, Carli.
I was in my early 20s when the "Who shot JR" episode was on and I was working as an OR Tech. The surgeon operating that night didn't want to miss the episode so they played it in the OR. How's that for scary??? That was the only episode I ever saw.
Michele sent me over, Carli. Hi again!
Oh yeah, I remember that episode. THe VCRs were on over-time with that one. Something was going on and we all taped it too, I remember word getting back to us before we were able to watch. But we still watched it. I always liked Dallas. :)
Michele says hi.
I never watched Dallas, but I didn't really need to because everybody in the dorm watched and it was all they talked about the day after!
Good evening from Michele's.
I've never watched Dallas. Not once. I really don't watch any soaps, maybe I'm missing out here!
Here from Michele's
what a great post!
You're writing in living color.
this brilliance brought to you by Carlivision.

Hello, Michele sent me.
I never watched Dallas, but I remember all the hype both before and after that episode.
I never saw Dallas...my parents didn't watch it. They thought it was too risque back then. Probably would be considered tame by today's standards!!
Michele sent me today...I'll come back, though :)!
My employer (I was a live in housekeeper) watched Dallas every week, so I got to watch it every week too.....
It's Saturday Night at the Movies over at the Palace.....
Hey Carli, Michele sent me to say hi :-)

Hi Carli, just popped in to say Cry-Baby isn't hardcore Waters.
And yes, Patty Hearst was in this movie, playing Wanda (Traci Lords) Woodward's mother.
Fascinating people, John Waters found for his films..
