If I was ever made governess to seven American children with fake British accents (even though they're supposed to be Austrian), and there was a really bad thunderstorm, and the kids came to me in the middle of the night for comfort, you know what I'd do?
I'd tell them to "grow a pair" and kick them out of my room.
Then I'd sit down quietly, and, without song, make a list of some of my favorite things. (This is by no means a comprehensive list. It's what's on my mind right now.)
That being said, here is a brief list of some of my favorite things:
Slipper socks
Pajama bottoms
Football games played in the snow
A sleepy, content kitty sleeping on the couch beside me.
My beige couch
Movie trailers
Brussel sprouts
Getting packages from Amazon (I guess that would be my "brown paper packages tied up with string," only it's really, "brown cardboard package with a weird smiley-face icon on the side")
Laminate flooring
The sitcom Scrubs, which I now think was written especially for me.
Providing shot-by-shot commentary during The Waltons theme song.
My black down winter vest
Oatmeal
Tea (a drink with jam and bread, although I rarely drink it with jam and bread.)
Funny conversations with people I like
Long walks
Santa Claus
Blue jeans
Coming in from the rain
Throw blankets
Buying really cheap stuff (like the 6-pack of Snoopy travel tissues I just got for a buck!)
Sunday circulars
Finding a movie on TV just as it starts and deciding to watch the whole thing
A great musical number
Learning interesting new things via newspapers and magazines
Clementines
The Brooklyn Bridge
and perhaps, my favorite thing of all,
Saturday.
