On Tuesday, April 22, at 11:30 p.m. EST, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will show the 1942 Billy Wilder film The Major and the Minor. The film is noteworthy as Billy Wilder's directorial debut, but more importantly, it's laugh-out-loud funny. It has not been available for the home market (I saw it at a Billy Wilder festival a few years ago), but will be released on DVD the same day it airs on TV.
Ginger Rogers plays a down-on-her-luck door-to-door salesgal who hopes to save on train fare by passing herself off as a 12-year-old. When a friendly army major (Ray Milland) takes her under his wing, she's trapped into continuing the charade--while he struggles with the uncomfortable idea that he might be falling in love with a pre-teen.
Check it out. You will, perhaps, thank me for it.

Kind of Lolita for the non-perverted? I will set my DVR now. Thanks for the heads up.
