I finally saw Tropic Thunder today, and I gotta say, I wasn't that impressed. Maybe I was expecting too much, but honestly, I don't think I laughed out loud too much, whereas with Stepbrothers, I couldn't stop laughing. I will say that the opening few minutes were very clever, and Robert Downy Jr. was quite funny.

Tom Cruise, though? By now, most people have heard that Cruise has a supporting role as an overweight, bald studio executive. Critics are lauding his performance as a hilarious comic turn, but to me, the Emperor isn't wearing any clothes. Yes, you can take an actor known primarily (in the past two decades at least) for his roles in dramas and action flicks, and stick him in a comedy playing totally against part, and the results can be fabulous. But aside from the "OMG that's Tom Cruise playing an unattractive man in a comedic role" factor, there wasn't much to like in his performance.

My daughters been wanting me to take her to see Stepbrothers, one of these days. Glad to hear it's funny! I hate movies if they are too stupid.
