10 Things I Like About Dad

1. We have some weird genetic connection that makes us like the same jokes in the same movies and M*A*S*H episodes. There's never a summer movie we don't compare to Independence Day (It's one of our favorites. And yet Father's Day, starring Billy Crystal and Robin Williams, I've never seen.)He introduced me to The Twilight Zone (a place he must have thought I resided in growing up.
He is my sci-fi film buddy.

2. He's a lot less angry than he used to be, even if he'll always be Grumpy.

3. Even though he's only been my father for a short time, no one could be a "realer" father. Oh, wait. That's from an episode of Brady Bunch. Father of the year, season 1.

4. He's a man and he's not ashamed to love showtunes.

5. When I visit, he will often give me $20 "for the trip home."

6. He is fixing my towel rack today.

7. He does this very typical father-thing when it comes to the refrigerator being open, only instead of saying, "We don't have stock in the electric company," if I'm standing at the fridge for too long, he will bring over a chair so I don't have to stand up while I'm wasting his electricity :)

8.He finds new hobbies and he sticks with them. He discovered bike riding about 5-10 years ago, and now he spends a chunk of his weekends riding the streets of NJ with his "riding buddies." Dad was not always in good shape like this, and I know he's had some of the same struggles I have. (Cookies are delicious, even moreso at midnight.) That he has kept himself active for so long gives me hope that I, too, can turn it around. I won't bike, though. I'm afraid of falling off. Even exercise bikes. Well, no, not exercise bikes.

9. Once, when I was serving in the Korean War, he arranged for bbq ribs to be sent all the way from Chicago to my unit. He forgot to order cole slaw. Oh, wait. That was an episode of M*A*S*H.

10. My father is HOT. I mean, if he was not my Dad. . . Seriously, he is a handsome, handsome man.
