Smart Money Magazine reported recently that retailers often buy merchandise based on the weather of the year before. For exmample, if it became cool early last fall, and people were buying sweaters in early September, a department store might order lots of sweaters in anticipation of a similar weather pattern this year. . . only to find that it's 80 degrees in November, and they can't GIVE the sweaters away. And these are nice sweaters. Some of them are plaid.
This all sounded to me like the premise of a chick lit novel. Here it is: Struggling historic department store hires nerdy, style-phobic weather analyst to offer buying strategies. Weather analyst falls hard for female retail buyer, who breaks him out of his introverted shell and takes him on a fabulous makeover spree that will make a great montage in the inevitable movie version.
You heard it here first. If some grubby Harvard freshman gets a 3-book deal out of this storyline, there shall be Hell to pay.

Sounds like a good no-brainer to read - I could use one of those about now - sure you don't want to write one...it's been a couple of years since the last one...
You need a meathead boyfriend stringing said buyer along, who will cheat on buyer, break up with buyer, then beg buyer back. Wins her back temporarily because girls are dumb, but leads, ultimately, to a fistfight between weatherboy and meathead (a la Back the Future's Biff and McFly fight), during which weatherboy proves he can pack a punch--for the right lady.
I'm already thinking of this in movie version format, obviously.
Who should play Meathead?
