Make Mine a Grande Half-Calf Yam-o-ccino, Light Foam

Here are some interesting bits of trivia I learned at work today while doing research:

  1. During the Civil War, there was a shortage of coffee in the Confederate states. Instead, they brewed hot, steaming cups of sweet potato. There was no mention of whether there was a shortage of marshmallows.
  2. In 1951, the NFL experimented with white footballs for a short time before returning to the traditional brown.
I also wrote this horrible joke while looking up some information on bats:

How does a flying mammal make the transition into womanhood?
She has a bat mitzvah.

I think this is from Gone with the Wind (the book, not the movie), sugar was also in short supply during the Civil War and they used to dehydrate watermelon to get sweetener. I wanted michele to send me, but don't know who she is and where I can find her!

Those are two very interesting facts. I'm sure the new BF will be surprised when I mention the little tidbit during football season.
