Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore

I watched ADLHA last night, and I loved it. I loved Ellen Burstyn's vulnerable, Oscar-winning portrayal of Alice, a widowed aspiring singer holding it together for her son, toiling away as a waitress in Tucson. I loved Alfred Nutter III, who played her smart-aleck 11-year-old Tommy, and Jodie Foster's awkward, pubescent portrayal of his cohort, Audrey. And I really loved Kris Kristofferson's beard. Mostly, I have to admit, I enjoyed seeing Vic Tayback originate the role of Mel, a role he'd play on the sitcom adaptation of Alice for the next decade. (For the record, not only was the sitcom a formulaic shell of Martin Scorsese's brilliant, moody movie, Alice's point of departure was moved from New Mexico to New Jersey, likely because Linda Lavin would not be the slightest bit believable as a housewife from anywhere outside the tri-state area.)

On another note, the cat woke me up at 7 a.m., crying for attention. Then he stood on my nightstand knocking stuff over. Then he tried to eat a stray piece of plastic. I swear, that cat thinks his name is, "Plastic is not food."
If he doesn't start behaving, that crazy feline is going to live with Alice, 'cause he ain't living here anymore.

I will have to check it out.

My cat likes to sit on my dresser and occasionally kick stuff off to see if she can wake me.
