Movie Watched Tonight: Suddenly Last Summer (1959). Another victim of the Hays production code, SLS follows the story of Katherine (Elizabeth Taylor), a disturbed young woman whose rich Aunt Violet (Katherine Hepburn) wants her lobotomized in hopes that she'll never remember the violent and scandalous death of Violet's son. Memorable performances and a rich Tennessee Williams script do not compensate for plot holes left by fifties era censorship. And what is up with Katherine Hepburn's voice? I know it's supposed to be a "Bryn Mawr" accent, but doesn't more than one person in the world have to have a specific accent for it to be considered an accent and not a speech impediment?
